A taste of something exotic at Everybody’s Cafe, San Fernando

September 19, 2006 ·

At Everybody's cafe This is our group picture at Everybody's Cafe taken by fellow blogger and foodie Anton. We just had an unforgettable dinner at this culinary landmark in San Fernando, Pampanga which prides itself for being "the home of authentic Kapampangan cuisine." As usual, our table was filled with all sorts of goodies - some which smacked of down-home cooking and some which were simply not for the fainthearted. Among these were the fried camaru or cricket, the stuffed frogs and marinated carabao meat or pindang tapa , all of which we tried with ... Continue Reading...

Forget-your-diet, ultimate food trip to Subic & Pampanga, Part 2

September 13, 2006 ·

At MeatPlus It took someone like Spanky to convince me to embark on another food trip on the culinary paradise that is Pampanga, of course together with our usual band of bloggers. Spanky's email a few weeks before the trip certainly had my appetite on a roll. He told us to try MeatPlus Cafe in Subic for one of the best-tasting cheeseburgers in town, the sinfully rich brazo de mercedes bars at Aurely's Bakeshop in San Fernando and Everybody's Cafe for a sampling of authentic Kapampangan cuisine. Of course we tried this all, and more! The trip would ... Continue Reading...

Living happily with poverty

September 6, 2006 ·

"Succulent Wild Woman," a book I am browsing through right now, list the many ways by which one can live without money. I think this is relevant considering that all of us have been broke at one time in our life. I sometimes think what I would have been if I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and money was no object. Would happiness come from buying all the Prada shoes and Louis Vuitton bags I want? Looking back, being born from an ordinary family has made me the person with a strong character I am now. It has taught me to treat money responsibly, plan my life ... Continue Reading...

Last call for the Manila International Book Fair

September 2, 2006 ·

The Philippines' biggest bookstore, the Manila International Book Fair, happens only once a year and its ongoing until tomorrow, Sept. 3, at the World Trade Center on Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. cor. Roxas Blvd., Pasay City. My friend, who's the event's publicist, sent this announcement to me: "Touted as the country’s biggest annual bookstore’, the MIBF is sprawled on approximately 12,000 square meters of exhibit space, with 111 participants together under one roof – from publishers to book retailers like National Bookstore, Powerbooks, Goodwill Bookstore and ... Revisiting The University

September 2, 2006 ·

USTshots I visited my university after a long time again last week and as what usually happens in this case, it brought back old memories. Of course it's been yearssss since I graduated and I only studied here for a relatively short four years. Still it's hard to imagine the kind of person I would have been today if I didn't have the label "college graduate" to speak of. You see, I almost didn't finish college. It was brought by the fact that I was already working in the newspaper in my junior year and the adrenaline of chasing the news had swept me off ... Continue Reading...
