101 things I love about Manila (a continuing list)

April 9, 2006 ·

bubbleboy Originally uploaded by annalyn. Manila unnerves me with its pack of beggars, criminals and swindlers (especially the one who victimized me last December)but I guess the things I love about this city outnumber the bad. I love Manila because it has s-o-u-l and it will always stand for the dreams and ambitions of its inhabitants who hope to make it to the big league, despite the seeming contradictions. Besides, I live and work in Manila so I have no choice but to love it back. I've made this list to convince myself of its virtues. Your contributions ... Continue Reading...

The Runaway Groom (updated)

April 6, 2006 ·

(Note: This is one of my interesting articles I've safekept which was previously published in Weddings Magazine. If you have another engrossing story to tell, care to share them here:) Like Julia Roberts' character Maggie Carpenter in Runaway Bride, my friend Ron is a runaway groom - two times over. Twice, he mustered enough courage to propose to his two serious girlfriends and twice he called the engagement off - naturally with heartbreaking results. Ron's first engagement was to his officemate Tina. They were on-and-off for six years. Ron proposed to her during ... Continue Reading...

Travelling light

April 5, 2006 ·

Am such a disciple for travelling light that there have been times I carried it to the extreme. Once, I ran out of clothes on the third day of a four-day vacation. This is because I loathe the idea of lugging around too heavy luggages , even carry-ons, especially in international airports where you have to walk something like a kilometer to traverse one terminal to the next. Having said so, here are 'travel light' tips I've gathered through the years. Would appreciate getting yours too: ... Continue Reading...

Local plane fares getting cheaper

April 3, 2006 ·

Got in just in time to avail of Cebu Pacific's Unfare! promo which ended yesterday. I have to admit that I booked on a whim but the One Peso fare to select destinations in the country was just too cheap to resist. Flights to Kalibo, Tagbilaran and Puerto Princesa were already fully booked so I chose Iloilo. I don't know why I picked Iloilo (har! har!) but the main reason is that I haven't been there. I do plan to go on a food trip there when I travel early October. Plus, it's a good jump-off point to Guimaras Island and Boracay is only five hours away by land. Munchin' ... Continue Reading...

A food paradise too!

April 1, 2006 ·

Legend food Name the seafood of your dreams and you'd probably find it in Palawan whose vast seas are blessed with marine creatures of all kinds.Vegetarians, on the other hand, wouldn't be too happy living here since their greens come from Manila and therefore expensive, but you certainly can feast on all the fish and crabs you can find. The Legend Hotel, where we stayed in Puerto Princesa, has a good buffet in its coffeeshop from breakfast till dinner. Among these are shown in the pics (clockwise, from left): sinigang na maya-maya sa mangga, alimango sa ... Continue Reading...
