It is Good Friday now for Catholics in the Philippines and the time is usually associated with fasting or abstaining from meat. Fish, seafood, vegetables and the occasional hunger are the order of the day. Anyway, am sharing here a rather belated post about the Spanish cooking class I attended at The Maya Kitchen mid-March. On the podium was Spanish chef Chele Santiago who lords it over one of Manila's celebrated culinary kitchens, Gallery VASK in Bonifacio Global City. It is rather expensive to dine at Vask, but those who attended this class took the shortcut. We ... Continue Reading...
The great Aristocrat food trip….. to San Pablo, Laguna!
The Aristocrat Restaurant on Roxas Boulevard is a great city landmark, much like the Quiapo Church or Rizal Park. But the amazement goes a notch higher when am faced with its year of birth : it was put up in 1936 which means it was there before the Second World War. If you're looking for the oldest full-service restaurant chain in Manila, look no further. This is it! Being in the business for so long and still drawing crowds day after day can only mean one thing: this restaurant serves consistently good food. For instance, I don't mind eating that ... Dessert p0rn at the 1st Pleasure Store of #MagnumManila
Mark your calendars: it's less than 7 days to go before the first Magnum Pleasure Store opens in Manila. April 8, to be exact! Was fortunate to sample their goodies last week and I highly recommend! The pop-up store's location at SM Aura's SkyPark Dining looks really posh but Make Your Own Magnum is a real treat. For only 100 pesos, you get to dip your Magnum bar in your choice of chocolate coating then choose three from 18 tempting toppings, which range from crushed chocolate chip cookies to freeze-dried raspberries. I had two Magnum bars and it was an ... Continue Reading...

Reporting by Angelique Misa (Photo from geoffreyzakarian.com) The Next Iron Chef Season 4 winner and great culinary icon, Chef Geoffrey Zakarian was in Manila last March 20, 2014 for the Feast of Colours – Gala Dinner held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. The event was made possible by Colours, the living magazine channel and Cignal Digital TV, and it was all for a good cause! Proceeds of the five-course gala dinner - attended by the Who's Who in Manila society - went to the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF), the country’s major ... Continue Reading...
IHOP Philippines opening more branches
It seemed only last year when the first branch of IHOP (International House of Pancakes) opened in Bonifacio Global City. Who can forget those deliriously-long lines? The queues are gone at the BGC branch the last time we checked but that's probably because IHOP has also opened in UP Town Center in Quezon City and Mall of Asia in Pasay City. MOA? Yay. So near me. If I remember right, this new branch occupies the former location of Seattle's Best, in front of the bay. I went here last week for the first anniversary celebration of IHOP in the Philippines. Was I ... Continue Reading...
