Just because we now have all sorts of foreign food chains around doesn't mean we get to ignore our culinary roots. I feel this way sometimes: when I get 'tongue fatigue' from slurping on so many bowls of ramen, munching on macarons and getting a headache from eating foie gras, I yearn for good old Filipino home cooking. My particular interest lies with regional cuisine and the cooking techniques of native chefs which are as diverse as these 7107 islands. This is the reason why am always on the lookout for outstanding Pinoy restos. Even though our yaya at home cooks ... Continue Reading...
I survived Fitness First #PushYourLimits!
There was an invite for us to attend the Push Your Limits event organized by Fitness First a few weeks ago in Bonifacio High Street. I was excited to go because I really like health-related activities, even though when it comes to going to the gym... it's really more of a case of "the flesh is willing, but the spirit is weak." LOL. Anyway, the activity had a series of unexpected twists for me. I didn't know that it would literally push my limits. We weren't even told to dress up for the occasion. It turns out the organizers' intention was to show how exercise ... Continue Reading...
Fish & seafood for Lent at l’entrecote BGC
My female buddies and I have found the perfect place to chill in Burgos Circle: it's at the al fresco area of L'Entrecote Corner Bistro. Watching people pass by is my cheap thrill: I get to notice everyone's sense of fashion, try to guess what they do for a living, what they're thinking. And since this is Bonifacio Global City, you get to see a lot of celebrities too. We were waiting for our dinner at L'Entrecote when Brapanese model Hideo Muraoka zoomed by, and our jaws almost dropped. If you know Hideo, I think he's got more sex appeal than boy-next-door ... In Southern Leyte: Tangkaan Beach
I've been busy with local travels in line with my resolve to explore more of the islands this year. But first let me tell you about my trip to our great hometown over the weekend. Even though I grew up and studied primary school in Southern Leyte, I rarely visit because it's such a pain to go here. Decades of political nonchalance has somehow deprived the area of a decent airport. One still has to travel 3-4 hours by land after deplaning in Tacloban :( Anyway, the visit to our town of Padre Burgos was just what I needed to recharge. It's nice to be in a place where ...
