Lori over at Dessert Comes First asked her readers about the best place in town that serves fries. On ordinary days, I'd say McDonald's but somehow,I can't forget the french fries served at Mama Lou's Italian kitchen that combines three of my favorite things: gravy, cheese and bacon! This bacon poutine is certainly my favorite:) Is it good? Say that again! I believe that in the French region of Canada, poutine is a diner staple and is usually served with fresh cheese curds and brown gravy. I normally get my poutine fixation at Mama Lou's since places serving ... Continue Reading...
Dolce Vita Manila: the food
In my previous post, I told you about this wonderfully designed place in the heart of Mabini St. Manila. Honestly, I've been feeling sad at the state of decay that Ermita is in now until I discovered this hidden gem with all the Venetian masks inside the Casa Tesoro building. Chef Tiziano Cavallini lords it over the kitchen of Dolce Vita. He hails from Modena, said to be the food capital of Italy, and has worked in a four star Michelin-rated restaurant there. In his long career, the chef has cooked for the likes of Queen Elizabeth and Luciano Pavarotti. I guess ... Continue Reading...
Anne Curtis plays a high-flying agent in new Smart TVC
Anne Curtis looks hot as usual in the new Smart campaign where she plays an acrobatic heroine named Agent Anne. And the best thing? she claims to have done most of the stunts herself. “I think it’s cool because I’ve endorsed Smart before, but this time it’s a different face. Sumu-superhero na ako!," the popular actress and singer says. Anne recalled that her first Smart cellphone was under the Price Buster plan and fellow actor Patrick Garcia was the endorser of the service at the time. “Wala pa ngang text noon, haha!” she notes. With the new product she's ... Continue Reading...
Dolce Vita Steakhouse: my favorite Italian spot in Manila
Ermita, Ermita! I've worked in this area for the past 10 years and even hang out here during that era when Penguin Cafe, Hard Rock and other restos still ruled it in Remedios Circle. Fast forward to 2011 and it seems the area now is a hodge-podge of Korean joints, condos being constructed and the giant mass of concrete called Robinsons mall. I was certainly glad to find my favorite Italian spot amid the speeding jeepneys of Mabini St. (Mabini, incidentally was the site of all the girlie bars in the 80s, until Mayor Alfredo Lim closed them all down). You won't miss ... Continue Reading...
Impressions Restaurant by Chef Cyrille Soenen at Maxims Tower, Resorts World Manila
One of Manila's eminent French chefs, Cyrille Soenen, is no longer with Restaurant Cicou but he can now be seen topbilling the newly-opened Impressions Restaurant at Maxims Tower of Resorts World Manila. The restaurant on the third floor of Maxims Tower is adjacent to the exclusive Genting Club (membership: half a million pesos annually). With its swanky surroundings, you can just guess the kind of customers Impressions seeks to attract. But we were quite surprised to find that one can have a meal here for as little as P600. First, what impresses is the ... Continue Reading...
