Studying at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is a major dream for people interested in food and a chef's career. That's why it was hard to pass up a recent invite featuring Chef Robert Jorin, team leader of CIA's Baking & Pastry Arts Certificate Program. I figured that even if I am not able to go to CIA itself, at least I can hear one of their baking instructors speak, and have first-hand knowledge of CIA-tested recipes. Chef Jorin flew into town as a guest of the California Milk Advisory Board whose products are gaining headway in the Philippines ... Continue Reading...

Zapata’s: great Mexican resto in Angeles City, Pampanga

Going to Clark usually means "food trip!" and during this weekend holiday, I showed the family usual haunts like the VFW Post 2845 and Holiday Inn (their Mequeni Cafe had a great breakfast buffet, btw). I especially warned the hubby to save some room for Zapata's, especially as he loves his Mexican food. The interiors are very colorful and remains one of my favorites. There is always something ... Two drinks that make a difference in my life - coffee and Coca-Cola. The first is my morning comfort. The second is my all-around elixir for going through the day. The history of modern food wouldn’t be complete without a bottle or glass of Coke gracing our tables. You see, Coke is to food in the same way that honey is associated to bees and cows are to pasture. Truth is, I wouldn’t listen to you if you ever tell me that drinking Coke worsens our ‘bilbil’ (beer belly). Most likely, I will just tell you to stop eating rice! I had a difficult pregnancy the last time but ... Continue Reading...
Barby Paragas, not Barbie Palagos: Pnoy’s mystery date?
It was Barby Paragas (not Barbie Palagos) which President Noy (P-noy) , the country's most eligible bachelor, dated last Saturday at the Nuvo Restaurant in Greenbelt, Makati City. The mystery date became fodder of much speculation because it came on the heels of a rumored split between the President and his girlfriend of two years, lovely Councilor Shalani Soledad of Valenzuela City. Insiders said the 31-year old Barby is as pretty as Shalani. If she is the same Barby Paragas that shows up in an internet search of the professional network LinkedIn, indications are ...
