Chaikofi New chain chaikofi has got to have the best decorated interiors of a dining/coffee place in Manila today. Their just-opened express outlet at Robinsons Ermita stands out from the crowd because of its yellow motif and brightly-lit contemporary design. The back-to-back lounge seating evokes an American diner feel infused with the European touch (and rightly so, because one of the owners is Dutch). If you're looking for an alternative to good ol' Starbucks or Figaro, this is the place to go. At least you can hang out sipping your 100 peso designer ... Continue Reading...
Last call for the Philippine Bloggies
philippine bloggies Honestly, I never thought that covering the blog beat can be very overwhelming. The number of blogger meet-ups and events in the past months- both formal and informal - have been so much more than you can imagine and now, there's the Philippine Blog Awards to round it all up. PBA 2007 is the first venture of such kind to be organized by bloggers, for the country's bustling community of bloggers. Although a similar search has been done before, it has not generated as much buzz as it is now. Blogging in the country is growing at a ... Continue Reading...

After watching Casino Royale and seeing all the Desperate Housewives dish out the latest community gossip in the midst of their poker game, I was happy to finally try my hand at playing poker. A buddy told moi that it was like playing the Filipino game pusoy but even I haven't played pusoy in a ... Continue Reading...

(and am not exactly complaining because after all, we are supposed to exercise tolerance towards other races). They are omnipresent, especially where I live and work. Manila may as well be christened Koreatown. Is it good or bad? You tell me. I can just give you the signs on why Koreans are invading our world: 1. You begin to greet your cellphone callers with "Yo-bo-se-yo!" (and you're not even a rapper :P) 2. Your good morning/good ... Continue Reading...

beef hofan When it comes to the yummiest eats in town, my Filipino-Chinese ('tsinoy') friends are the authority and I always rely on them for the ultimate lowdown on where to go and what to order, especially when it comes to their cuisine. And that is how I came to embark on my Resto Discovery of the Week, a very unassuming place near where I live and work, simply named Malate Tea House. I remember passing by this tea house before but ignoring it because it seemed to be dissociated from every resto on the block. Everything about it - from the signboard ... Continue Reading...
