34 Things I Learned When I was 34

November 3, 2004 ·

With apologies to Robert Fulghum as well as the Giant Douche and the Turd Sandwich  who are slugging it out in the presidential elections. This post is totally irrelevant to the prevailing excitement but this list was something I wanted to do. And now that I've done it, it seems too mundane. Just bear with me, friends. Not necessarily in this order: 34.Diets almost always never work, so why diet? I am not gonna deprive myself because there just might be a deadly earthquake tomorrow. The key is in eating the right foods. If you watched “Supersize Me,” you know what ... Continue Reading...

Andy Rooney on Women in their 30’s

October 30, 2004 ·

I tried to be philosophical and would have liked to post a blog about "34 Things I Learned When I Was 34." However, I realized I need time to make a list of all the things that helped me in the past year in terms of self-growth and improvement. Looking deep into yourself is always hard but at 35, I am secure and independent enough not to think of a man to complete me or be dampened by the proverbial heartaches and failures that characterize this wheel called life. Happy and secure because I have my loving friends, stable job and beautiful kids; at peace because deep in my heart, I ... Continue Reading...

Of travelling quirks and other wandering tales

October 27, 2004 ·

Looks familiar? (Drawing by Dindo Llana)Originally uploaded by annalyn. By reason of the fact that thousands more of our countrymen are, or will be, working abroad in search of a better life, Filipinos can very well qualify for the title "most traveling race."There are good and not so good stories about Pinoys in foreign lands but what probably distinguishes us from the rest are our travelling quirks. They say you know it's a Filipino at the international airport when that person is standing next to eight boxes. This person also has carry-on luggage that requires the ... Continue Reading...

To Dumaguete City and back: romancing the sea

October 24, 2004 ·

Dr. Absin's Xmas HouseOriginally uploaded by annalyn. It's funny how I went to Dumaguete City like I was only going to Alabang: hop on an early 5:25 am flight that took me only 55 minutes, and come back the day after. Short as my stay was, it was event-filled and I felt like Dumaguete could be my home forever.I fell in love with the place as soon as I checked in at the South Sea Resort Hotel. The resort had spacious grounds lined with coconut trees and rooms overlooking the ocean. The receptionist said those two mountains dotting the horizon were Cebu and Siquijor ... Continue Reading...
