Blogging and/or Journalism?

July 28, 2004 ·

Blogging is definitely far from being juvenile. A closer look will reveal a lot of intelligent blogs in cyberspace ( and I am not talking of Washingtonniene). It's a different medium altogether, to the point that it's even being used in the present US presidential campaign. Having been a journalist, I was challenged by a question posed by NYU Department of Journalism faculty member Jay Rosen on whether or not blogging is journalism. I am mighty sure there is strong debate on the subject since journalists would think of themselves as an entirely different clique ... Continue Reading...

Thoughts from a Virgin Blogger

July 28, 2004 ·

My life has not taken on a normal course since I started this blog a few days ago. Suddenly, I am obsessed with knowing so much about the blogosphere in so little time. I am learning but I can only take so much of wysiwg, site feeds, atom, RSS, hyperlinks and all that stuff. There's a big technorati community out there adept in uttering a new generation of blogspeak which can be Greek to some of us raised in the tradition of Hemingway and Mrs. Dalloway. When I successfully uploaded my design for this blog, I thought blogger was a no-brainer. But then, I spent a ... Continue Reading...

Me on a Sunday

July 27, 2004 ·

My friend, the Philippine Senate's chief photographer Godfrey L., took a series of pictures of me at Manila's popular Baywalk two weeks ago. They're my favorite pictures this year. It was almost 5 p.m. and he was supposed to take a pic of me with the famous Manila Bay sunset on the background. Alas, the sun hid behind the clouds. We had fun nonetheless, it was completely no-fuss and I wasn't even waearing any make-up. Thanks, Godfrey! ... Continue Reading...

Encounter with a masseur

July 25, 2004 ·

I have watched macho dancers in a gay bar and  watched the same breed of macho dancers gyrating in a hotel room "bridal shower." That was all "for experience." Little did I know that today, I would choose to be massaged by a male attendant, a.k.a. masseur. It all started when I went to my spa aching for my monthly Swedish thing. After a few minutes of waiting at the reception area, the man in charge would come back telling me the bad news: I would have to wait for 20 minutes because the female attendants were fully booked. It must been borne out of my ... More of “King Arthur”

July 24, 2004 ·

This tired, old lady seldom watches movies and so it was a welcome respite when Gigi and I decided to watch King Arthur after gulping down our strawberries & cream frapp at Starbucks. The legend behind King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table will always fascinate me. It is one of conquest, bravery, chivalry and the follies of the human heart. Readers will always find interesting the love angle between Queen Guinevere and Lancelot but the King and his Knights are also identified with one of history's greatest adventures, the quest for the Holy Grail (more on ...
